St Barths Bucket Regatta 2010 edition !
The first St. Barths Bucket was sailed in 1995 with a fleet of 4 yachts; SARIYAH, the 131’ S & S ketch, Tom Taylor’s 108’ Ron Holland ketch, GLEAM, Nelson Doubleday’s 130’ Palmer Johnson ketch, MANDALAY and PARLAY, the Alden design 127’ Ketch.
Fishing was a major activity of the first races around St. Barths. Usually, GLEAM was the winner of this part.
Within a decade, the St. Barths Bucket became more important than expected. A limit of 30 yachts is required by the local Authorities to keep the control of the event. The Bucket has been all but full every year since 2005. In last editions, the fleet has overflowed with applicants even before the Notice of the Race is published!
The organizers have at heart to maintain the original, non-commercial flavor of the Bucket. Sponsorship is funded exclusively from the Marine Industry.
Thanks to the idea that the wholesome fun is more important than winning made the most of the success of this Bucket Regatta.
